Open the live register, not a copied list
ACMA says an online wagering service must be on its licensed-provider register to operate legally in Australia. Use the current regulator page each time. Screenshots, affiliate lists and search-result snippets can become stale when a service changes URL, licence holder or operational status.
Match four fields
Find the trading name, then compare the licence holder, exact website address and named licensing authority. A familiar logo or a domain containing a known brand is not a match. ACMA's June 2026 blocking release included domains that imitated licensed services, showing why the full hostname matters.
Read status notes
Some register entries are marked telephone-only or not currently operational. Do not treat the mere presence of a name as confirmation that a website at another address is active and licensed. Record what the register displayed and the date checked.
Understand what licensing confirms
A matching entry verifies the listed Australian wagering authorisation and identifies the licensing authority. It does not guarantee that every bet, withdrawal, promotion or support interaction will be dispute-free. ACMA directs other complaints about licensed providers to their licensing authority.
If the service is absent
Stop before depositing more money. Preserve the domain and any payment instructions, then use ACMA's interactive gambling complaint route if appropriate. Absence from the register supports saying the service is not listed; an official investigation is still needed before describing a legal contravention as a regulator finding.
Keep the record reproducible
Save the check date, exact URL and the relevant register row. If the result later changes, update the page rather than silently carrying forward an old conclusion. A correction should cite the live register or a dated licensing-authority record.
