Identify where the promotion appeared
Record whether the material was on a website or app, beside live-streamed sport, on television, on radio, in email or in a message. ACMA's guidance sends these situations through different forms. Choosing the right path reduces the risk of an incomplete or misdirected report.
Capture the advertisement without engaging
Save the full screen, page address, account or channel name, date and time, and the landing-page hostname. Do not deposit or provide personal information to prove that the advertisement works. A screenshot documents what was displayed, not who ultimately authorised it.
Separate the ad from the service
A complaint about promotion asks whether advertising rules may apply. A complaint about an online casino service asks whether the service itself may be prohibited or unlicensed. The same facts can touch both questions, but ACMA supplies a separate interactive-gambling complaint form.
Describe facts before conclusions
State the words, imagery, odds or call to action shown, where it appeared and which site it linked to. If operator or publisher identity is unclear, say that. Do not infer a corporate relationship from a logo or tracking link.
Understand broadcast sequencing
ACMA says some television and radio gambling-ad complaints should go to the broadcaster first, while certain online live-sport and prohibited-service advertising concerns can go directly to ACMA. Confirm the current guidance before submitting.
Keep the acknowledgement
Store the submitted description, attachments and reference. A receipt proves that material was reported; only a later official outcome can be described as a finding. If the ad disappears, retain the original capture rather than reconstructing it.
