What ACMA announced
The 25 June release says ACMA investigations found the listed gambling and affiliate services operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 and that the regulator requested ISP blocking. The page names each service, allowing a reader to match the record without relying on a copied or undated blacklist.
Two domains imitated licensed brands
ACMA expressly labels Chromabet.org as imitating the licensed ChromaBet service and Pointsbetz.com as imitating the licensed PointsBet service. This is a strong reminder that name similarity is not authorisation. A check must compare the complete hostname, provider and live register entry, not only the first word of a brand.
What blocking does and does not do
Website blocking is a disruption measure. It can reduce access through Australian ISPs, but a blocked service may move to another domain and an old page may remain visible in search or messages. The action does not determine a bank refund, settle a withdrawal request or prove that an unrelated mirror belongs to the same operator.
Verify before paying
- Copy the complete hostname from the address bar.
- Check the ACMA licensed wagering register where the service claims Australian approval.
- Search the current blocked-site and investigation records.
- Do not follow a replacement-domain link sent privately.
- Do not send a small deposit merely to test access.
If a site uses a familiar name
Keep the advertisement, message or referring page that led to the domain. Record any payment recipient and merchant descriptor. Report the exact URL rather than only the imitated brand. If a transaction was unrecognised, contact the financial institution immediately; if it was authorised, describe the service dispute accurately.
